Rudy Barnaud
Master student in Physics
Hey! I’m a 23 years old French Master’s student in the Erasmus Mundus QuanTEEM program, focusing on quantum physics and applications. My main areas of knowledge are Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Optics, but I also completed courses in other topic such as (classical) Cryptography and Quantum Information. Although I’m still exploring my exact path, I’m leaning towards a future in the fields of quantum optics, quantum solid state and quantum information (currently looking for a PhD). Excited about the journey ahead... Maybe we’ll meet along the way!
Education
-
Now • Erasmus Mundus Master QuanTEEM
University of Burgundy, Dijon, France. RPTU, Kaiserslautern, Germany. Aarhus Universitet, Aarhus, Denmark.QuanTEEM is a Master in Quantum Technologies and Engineering. First semester in Dijon was generalist, from Quantum Solid State Physics to Numerical Methods for Physics, including Quantum Optics and Signal Analysis. In Kaiserslautern, I focused on Quantum Optics, Quantum Field Theory and (classical) Cryptography, in addition to 2 lab works. Finally in Aarhus, I chose to study Advanced Quantum Physics, Quantum information Processing and Advanced Data Analysis, in addition to the course Platforms for Quantum Technologies. For the 4th semester, see below.

2024 • Bachelor of Physics with highest honors
University of Burgundy, Dijon, France. My first two years of bachelor were multidisciplinary, with courses in physics, mathematics, but also computer science and chemistry. Then for the last year, I specialized in physics with the path "fundamental physics and applications", which put the accent on Optics, both classical and quantum. I also did two internships within the university during the last year, see below.
-
2021 • Baccalaureate with honors
Lycée Nicéphore Niepce, Chalon-sur-Saône, France. The two core courses I followed in the second and third years were Mathematics and Physics - Chemistry, as well as Engineering Sciences in the second year. In addition, I followed the European section in English in Engineering Sciences during these three years of high school.
Skills & Interests
In addition to my background in physics and mathematics, I also learned to code in Java and Matlab at university, and self-taught various languages such as Python, LaTeX, and web languages.
I am fluent in French and have an academic level of English. I'm currently learning Danish (DU3 Modul 3) corresponding to A2 level, and also learned German to the A1 level during my stay in Kaiserslautern.
Always interested to learn new things, I also enjoy sharing knowledge. Started in high school, and frequently updated since, I developed a little self-hosted website sharing all the LaTeX-typed notes I take during lectures, as well as some course-related material. Used by my classmates and newer cohorts in both bachelor- and master-level, it receives in average 30 users per day. A little demo with more info is available here.

Now • Supervised by Dr. Artem Volosniev
Aarhus Universitet, Aarhus, Denmark.Theoretical analysis of topological insulators with a focus on the properties of surface states at the interface between two topological insulators under an external electric field. The objective is to compute both the static and transport properties of the system within this regime.
